As one of China's Four Silk Capital, Shengze town had a long history of the millennium for the textile production. As early as the Tang Dynasty, the local production of Wuling was offered to the palace as a tribute. It was known for the rich silk weaving industry and the prosperous silk trade by the time of Ming and Qing Dynasty, which was called the Four Silk Capital with Suzhou, Hangzhou and Huzhou. Sunrise million silk, clothing the world was a vivid reflection of the history. In Qianlong Emperor seventeen years (1752 years), Shengze town had the first domestic silk and textile trading market, which called the name of Zhuangmian and had been preserved. During the Qing Dynasty, It had been set up eight Silk Hall including Jidong House, which was engaged in the silk and textile trade.
The textile in Shengze always sold well at home and abroad with elegant and noble quality. Early in Qing Xuantong Emperor two years, it won the most superior prize in the Turin fair of Italy. It also obtained the golden prize of Panama, which was organized by the United States San Francisco in 1915. In addition, the textile product in Shengze was awarded seven pieces of national gold and silver medal consecutively in the 1980s.
After the reform and opening-up policy in China, Shengze town strengthened technological innovation and promoted industrial upgrading, which let this old town get changed forever and upgraded comprehensively, presented a unique industrial advantages. In 2006 and 2008, Shengze town was identified as China Textile and Fabric Fashionable Trend Base and Chinese popular fabric procurement base according to the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC). Meanwhile, it was also nominated for the first national professional demonstration base of foreign trade transformation and upgrading by the Department of Commerce PRC in August 2011.
At present, Shengze town has become the largest textile industry base in China, which is awarded the title of China Silk Capital, China Silk Town and Chinese textile industry influence city successively. China Eastern Silk Market was located in the Shengze town and was established in 1986, which formed a full textile production chain from PET chips to spinning, reeling, weaving, dyeing, fabric processing and apparel and became the distribution center and the center of price formation for the domestic silk and chemical fiber thin fabric, which was known as the first fabric city in China.
